Who is the most expensive player in the history of each Premier League team?
The summer transfer market has reopened, and Premier League teams have already begun their annual money-spinning spree.
Over the next several months, we could see some new transfer records established, but who is each team's current record buy?
Arsenal: Nicolas Pepe (£72m, 2019)
Nicolas Pepe hasn't had exactly the same success at Arsenal as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the club's previous record acquisition.
Since signing from Lille, the Ivory Coast winger has showed moments of brilliance, but he hasn't consistently delivered his finest work.
Aston Villa: Emi Buendia (£33m, 2021)
Emi Buendia, Aston Villa's most high-profile acquisition in the next summer transfer window, earned his huge move after burning up the Championship with Norwich.
Villa's creative spark has come from the Argentina international, who has created more huge opportunities than anybody else in 2021/22.
Bournemouth: Jefferson Lerma (£25m, 2018)
Jefferson Lerma may have departed Bournemouth after their relegation from the Premier League in 2020, but he stayed and played a key role in their promotion in 2022/23.
The Colombia international has been a no-nonsense presence in the Cherries midfield, but he has occasionally gone too far, incurring a six-match ban for biting last season...
Brentford: Kristoffer Ajer (£13.5m, 2021)
Brentford set their transfer record by acquiring Celtic's tall centre-back Kristoffer Ajer after getting promoted to the Premier League for the first time.
Ajer, a Norway international, made 22 league starts for Thomas Frank's Bees, who finished in 13th position.
Brighton: Enock Mwepu (£20m+, 2021)
Enock Mwepu brought Champions League experience to Brighton as part of a seemingly continuous supply of talent coming out of the Red Bull Salzburg factory.
The Zambian midfielder adapted well to life with the Seagulls, receiving the club's Goal of the Season title for his spectacular curling effort against Liverpool at Anfield.
Chelsea: Romelu Lukaku (£97.5m, 2021)
Romelu Lukaku had to perform after returning to Chelsea in one of the most expensive transfers in history - and he hasn't.
Last season, Belgium's all-time leading scorer managed only eight goals in 26 Premier League games, and he publicly said he wasn't pleased at Stamford Bridge (awkward).
Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke (£27m, 2016)
Christian Benteke is a Belgian international striker who has done much better since leaving Liverpool for Crystal Palace six years ago in a world-record-breaking transaction.
He's scored in double digits twice for the Eagles, the most noteworthy goal being a 95th-minute victory against arch-rivals Brighton in February 2021.
Everton: Gylfi Sigurdsson (£45m, 2017)
Everton shattered their transfer record by acquiring Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea three years after signing Lukaku from Chelsea for £31.8 million.
With the exception of 2018/19, when he contributed 19 league goals (13 goals, six assists), the Icelandic set-piece expert did not return the astronomical cost and will be a free agent this summer.
Fulham: Jean Michael Seri (£25m, 2018)
With Fulham back in the Premier League, there's a possibility they'll shatter their transfer record this summer – but for now, Jean Michael Seri is the club's most expensive player.
Seri, who spent time on loan at Galatasaray and Bordeaux, is now a free agent, although he departs West London having helped the Cottagers win the Championship in the 2012/13 season.
Leeds: Rodrigo (£27m, 2020)
Rodrigo, one of a slew of newcomers following Leeds' return to the Premier League in 2020, has offered adequate backup for Patrick Bamford.
The former Valencia Benfica striker scored seven goals in his debut season with the Whites, then added six more in 2021/22 – including one in the Whites' eventually important 3-2 victory against Wolves in March.
