BRENNAN JOHNSON believes he can relieve some of Gareth Bale's World Cup load.
In Wales' 3-2 Nations League defeat to Holland on Tuesday, the Nottingham Forest wonderkid scored for the second game in a row.
Captain Bale believed he had saved a 93rd-minute draw in Rotterdam with Brennan Johnson believes he can relieve Gareth Bale of scoring burden in Qatar.
his 39th international goal, but Memphis Depay smashed home a winner.
Johnson, a rising talent who is vying for a starting berth in Qatar, believes he can relieve the pressure on Wales' talisman in the region.
"If that is what I can do, then I am happy to do it," Johnson, 21, said, adding that it will relieve some of the strain on him. "I've always wanted to score goals." But there are also the boys.
Having a more diverse group of goal scorers will be extremely beneficial to us."
Johnson, who played a key role in Forest's promotion to the Premier League via the play-off final in May, has had an incredible month for his country.
In the play-off final victory against Ukraine, the forward hit the post, securing Wales' place in the World Cup.
Then he scored his first Dragons goal in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Belgium, before scoring another against the Dutch at the De Kuip Stadium.
"It's been a good camp," Johnson remarked. 'I had done well, and I have the confidence to achieve it again with Wales,' I thought after a lengthy season. "I'm pleased with how things have turned out." It was good to get a goal [against Holland]. "When H gets his head up, I know he'll be able to put quality balls through." He pushed one through, and I knew it would be a tight fit, so I positioned it in the bottom corner. "It's something I needed to improve, and it was good to see it go in," says the artist.
Johnson has already been dubbed the "future of Welsh football" by manager Robert Page.
"It's nice when you have your finest players," the caretaker gaffer added, "and Brennan is clearly proving his worth." It's not just the centre-forwards who give you a boost when you have them on the team sheet; it's also your teammates. "Brennan is improving game by game and has a bright future."
Following his Euro 2020 mistake against Turkey, Page confessed he was unconcerned about Bale scoring from the penalty spot against Holland.
"It was no surprise, he is a strong character," he added. I completely anticipated him to take the penalty kick and score.
He is one goal short of 40, and it would be fantastic to see him reach that mark in Qatar, or elsewhere.
We ask him to play in a different position, but we all know how good he is with free kicks.
"Just last week, he was on the verge of getting one. He has much more to offer."
