It would take another 24 hours for the Accra-Tema Motorway to reopen.
After a few meters were blocked off for repair work on the Lakplakpa bridge, it saw heavy vehicular traffic for about two weeks.
The Ghana Highway Authority is collaborating with the Roads and Highways Ministry on this initiative (GHA).
The final step of concrete casting has been completed as of Wednesday night.
The concrete should dry in a few hours with the assistance of a particular additive.
In an earlier statement, the Ministry stated that the Accra-bound segment of the road where the rehabilitation is taking place is set to reopen to traffic on Friday, June 17.
Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako Atta was sure that the deadline will be fulfilled when visiting the construction on Wednesday night.
"I will spend the night here with my group," he told reporters, "and we expect to open this section to traffic at 6 a.m. on Friday." In the name of Allah."
"We'll do everything we can." Cost is still a factor in a crisis like this. After that, we'll sit down and calculate the project's cost in order to determine its value for money. We would not overspend money unnecessarily," he emphasized.
Motorists are encouraged to utilize other routes such as Fertilizer Road, Tsui Bleoo Road, Spintex Road 1, Teshie Link, Adogon Highway, and Burma Camp Roads 1 and 2 for the time being.
Meanwhile, the Minister claims that identical restoration work performed on the same bridge in 2014 fell short of expectations.
According to him, the contractor used "a steel plate and then pour the asphalt on it" during the restoration under the previous administration.
"However, due to corrosion, the prior remedy of attaching the steel plate did not persist." That is why, in order to adhere to the highway route, we are currently giving it a 100 percent concrete treatment. As a result, we came to an agreement on a permanent, long-term solution, so please bear with us."
