The 16 pupils who remained in the hospital following the police violence at the Islamic Senior High School on Monday have all been released.
According to the Deputy Education Minister, the total number of students discharged from various hospitals as of Tuesday, June 14 is now 38, and they have all returned to school to complete their academic work.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour told the media about it and thanked the workers of Kumasi's different health institutions as well as other stakeholders who helped with the transportation, facilitation, and treatment of the pupils.
He also thanked the parents of the afflicted pupils, as well as other family members, for their support and contributions to the construction of a calm environment. Rev. Fordjour was optimistic that the concerns that sparked the protests will not recur as a result of the many interventions and measures put in place by the government and school authorities thus far.
He also emphasized that the true reason of the demonstration, as well as other difficulties that led to it, would be examined seriously, and that the appropriate steps would be put in place to preserve calm in the schools so that students could stay and study.
In a related development, the Ashanti Regional Directorate of Education has formed a three-member fact-finding committee led by Mr Sarfoh Kantanka, a former Regional Director of Education, to look into the circumstances surrounding the police raid on the school.
The committee must submit its findings to Mrs. Mary Owusu Afriyie, Regional Director of Education, by Friday.
They are to examine the reasons of the demonstration, the underlying cause of the issue that led to the attack and shooting by police officers, assess the impact of the demonstration and the shooting, and provide suitable suggestions as a starting point.
