two leading institutions in the Republic of Ghana’s fruit and vegetable sector have joined forces to extend the assembly and provide quality fruits and vegetables and boost exports.

The Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association of Ghana (VEPEAG) and also the Ghana Association of Vegetable Exporters (GAVEX) have worked severally over the years and created vital investments into the expansion of the world and its contribution to the Ghanese economy.

Ghana Vegetables are going to be launched in Accra on Gregorian calendar month 23, 2022 on the theme: ‘Towards a Competitive and Innovative High-value Fruit and Vegetable sector.’

 

Ghana’s favourable conditions for vegetable cultivation, the proximity to and bilateral relations with the ECU Union (EU) have positioned the country at a plus to learn from vegetable exports.

However, this advantage has not been exploited over the years thanks to low productivity and different challenges.

Commenting on the milestone, the President of VEPEAG, Dr Felix Mawuli Kamassah, noted, “there are makes an attempt to consolidate the efforts and techniques of the VEPEAG and GAVEX to gift a formidable front to pursue reforms that may profit the producers and exporters of recent vegetables.

Among others, the Ghana Vegetables will work to make sure the assembly of quality volumes of vegetables for native and international markets to push the consumption of additional vegetables by Republic of Ghanaians.

Dr Kamassah lauded the work done by Hortifresh WestAfrica in birthing the platform for the birth of the new Ghana vegetable project.

Hortifresh may be a programme supported by the Embassy of the dominion of Holland to ascertain a property and internationally competitive fruit and vegetable sector that contributes to comprehensive economic growth, and food and nutrition security in Ghana and the Ivory Coast.

Hortifresh replaced the GhanaVeg programme that was enforced from 2013 to 2017 to develop a competitive and property vegetable sector in the Republic of Ghana.

For his part, the President of GAVEX, Mr Collins

Mawuli Hodey, said, “this partnership with VEPEAG can broaden our reach and talent to support new initiatives for the fruits and vegetable sector. Ghana Vegetable will introduce measures to make sure vegetable farmers and exporters are higher off.”
