La Liga has escalated its campaign against Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain by launching a complaint with UEFA alleging Financial Fair Play violations.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has often lambasted the duo, which he refers to as "state clubs," and has chastised PSG for signing star striker Kylian Mbappe to a new multi-million pound deal in May.

Since then, Premier League City has announced Erling Haaland's £51.2 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

Both players piqued Real Madrid's interest in signing them.  "La Liga is aware that these clubs' irregular funding is carried out, either via direct cash injections or through sponsorship and other contracts that do not conform to market circumstances or make economic sense," La Liga stated.

"La Liga believes that these activities impair the ecosystem and long-term viability of football, affect all European clubs and leagues, and serve simply to artificially inflate the market with money earned outside of football."

The complaint against PSG was filed this week, while the one against City was filed in April, however La Liga has stated that it maintains the right to pursue these cases further.

In the past, both City and PSG have fought back hard against Tebas' criticisms.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport reversed City's two-year Champions League suspension issued by Uefa for Financial Fair Play violations in July 2020.

Uefa passed new financial restrictions in April, including boosting the amount of money clubs may lose over a three-year period from 30 million to 60 million euros, with certain clubs getting an extra 10 million if they are in 'excellent financial condition.'

Tebas warned last month that when Mbappe turned down a transfer to Real Madrid, La Liga will take legal action against PSG.

Instead, the France international extended his deal with PSG until 2025, prompting Tebas and La Liga to claim that the contract extension "threatens the financial stability" of PSG.

Tebas will provide a detailed presentation on the topic at a European Leagues conference in Amsterdam on Thursday.
