Atsu Makafui Kumordzi, a prominent lottery agency in Akatsi, Volta Region, has been raided by suspected armed robbers.

A father of three, Dotsey Dogbatey, a 51-year-old business driver, was reportedly shot to death by a group of thieves.

He was shot in the left lumbar area of his chest and was confirmed dead at the Akatsi Municipal Hospital on Monday night after being transported there for medical care.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the gang also assaulted other employees of Makafui and Son's Firm Limited, a licensed private Lotto company located in Ayitikope in the Volta region's Akatsi South Municipality, leaving them with life-threatening injuries.

According to the GNA, the thieves forced their way inside the business and kept the employees hostage for many minutes.

One of the victims, Gakpo Yao, a firm employee, stated that the thieves broke into the guarded premises shortly after he arrived to submit his books and money for the day's lottery activity.

He claimed that after hearing knocks at the door, a coworker opened the gate, assuming it was another group of employees returning from the field.

"I was going to put my vehicle key where we placed them after coming from the field when we saw the fully armed bandits enter the home and ask us to disclose the whereabouts of our boss," he explained.

The thieves began firing indiscriminately when they failed to reveal the whereabouts of their boss, according to him.

Cecilia Gadasu, a caterer at the residence who was assaulted, claimed the robbers beat her in the head, waist, and knees with metal and wooden weapons.

Another victim, Dovlo Nagodei, was later taken to the Ho Teaching Hospital for medical care owing to the severity of his head injury, while two other casualties, one of whom was a woman, were treated at the Akatsi Municipal Hospital.

On Monday, June 13, about 7:40 p.m., laborers were returning from the field with money when the event occurred.

Meanwhile, the burglars were able to make off with an undisclosed sum of money before police arrived on the scene.

Superintendent of Police Isaac Baah, the Akatsi Municipal Police Commander, verified the event and informed people that efforts are being taken to catch the offenders.

This is the second similar occurrence, the first being on May 29, last year, when Atsu Makafui Kumordzi was physically assaulted as the thieves fled with large quantities of money.
