To avoid failing to rebuild under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United must begin to be active in the transfer market amid ties to players like Frenkie de Jong and Christopher Nkunku.

Gary Neville, a former United star and media pundit, delivered this message and cautioned that late transfer activity would only make Ten Hag's job harder.

After joining a United team that concluded the 2021–22 Premier League season with their lowest ever points total, Ten Hag confronts a major rebuilding task.

For the first time since the 1989–90 season, the Red Devils also failed to finish a league season with a positive goal differential (zero).

When his contract expires at the end of June, Paul Pogba will follow Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata out the exit door as Ten Hag attempts to make his imprint at Old Trafford.

Numerous players, including Nkunku, De Jong, and Christian Eriksen, have been mentioned in connection with United. Jurrien Timber and Antony, two former Ajax players of Ten Hag, have also been mentioned as possibilities.

Declan Rice of West Ham and Pau Torres of Villarreal may seem like more unlikely choices, but Neville insists that United must move quickly or their already challenging task would get even more tough.

On Thursday, Neville posted on Twitter that "the others seem set and ready, however United can't get rolling."

"Ten Hag must gather his crew together as soon as possible so that he can shape them. It will only be more difficult for him if they arrive late. It occurs soon, fingers crossed!"

Prior to United's first Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion on August 7, Ten Hag will expect to have a busy transfer window.

The Red Devils will play their opening Premier League encounter at home for the sixth consecutive season – the longest active streak of any Premier League team – in the Dutchman's first competitive game in charge.
