If Juventus is successful in re-signing Paul Pogba, the former Manchester United midfielder would be a "great" addition to the Bianconeri, according to Italian icon Marco Tardelli.
After his United departure was made official, Pogba, who spent four trophy-filled years in Turin between 2012 and 2016, has been heavily linked with a return to Juventus.
Pogba had the most Premier League assists (38) and chances created (231) of any United player during his six-year stay at Old Trafford, but his second stint there came to a dismal conclusion when he played just 1,354 minutes of domestic league games last season.
While returning to a previous club is never easy, Tardelli, who won five Serie A championships with Juventus during his playing career, maintained that Pogba would be the ideal signing for Massimiliano Allegri.
According to Tardelli, who was quoted by ANSA, "I think returns are always harder since there are larger expectations." But it's a great purchase, nonetheless.
Juventus wanted to add players who could "make a big contribution in every department," according to Tardelli. The team will undergo a complete rebuild after placing fourth in Serie A for the second consecutive year after winning the championship in each of the nine seasons prior.
The national team, which missed out on World Cup qualification and is currently sitting third in Nations League group A3 after winning only one of their first four games, may not be benefiting from the exceptionally small number of notable Italian players playing for Juventus.
No Italian player made the top five list of Serie A minutes played for Juventus in 2021–2022, which included Wojciech Szczesny, Matthijs de Ligt, Juan Cuadrado, Alvaro Morata, and Adrien Rabiot, with Manuel Locatelli coming in sixth.
After losing 5-0 to Germany on Tuesday after losing 3-0 to a Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina earlier in the month at Wembley, Roberto Mancini's Italy had a poor international break. Tardelli also thinks the Azzurri are lacking a top forward.
The majority of Juventus' players are foreigners, according to Tardelli. "The Sassuolo team, which has little international experience, is where [Italy forwards Gianluca] Scamacca and [Giacomo] Raspadori play.
"We lack a champion, particularly in the more skilled category—a player who can create a pass, not just the number nine.
"There is always an issue if you don't score a goal, but I have faith in Scamacca, and I also had it in [Ciro] Immobile, but if you don't show signs, you are criticized," Scamacca said.
"Mancini is doing a great job; he's looking for young people and, in certain cases, he's found them. Because I haven't yet seen him, we need to be patient and hope to find a champion like [Francesco] Totti, [Roberto] Baggio, or [Alessandro] Del Piero.
