COVID-19 expenses: Ofori-Atta has no regard for Parliament – A.B.A. Fuseini.
A.B.A. Fuseini, the Minority Communications Spokesperson, claims that the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, consistently fails to attend in Parliament to brief the House on COVID-19 expenditure, implying that he disregards the House.
Mr. Fuseini's outburst follows the Finance Minister's inability to attend in front of the House on Tuesday, June 16, 2022, and other times.
Sagnerigu MP Ibrahim Alhassan told Starr FM Parliamentary correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan that the Finance Minister has turned himself into a tin god in the cabinet.
"Is the Finance Minister above accountability, and is he above the laws of this country?" "You folks are reporters here, you've seen how many Ministers come to answer questions here, is the Finance Minister above accountability, and is he above the laws of this country?" It's because he's turned himself into a tin-god in the NPP's government, where he's untouchable. Because he is close to the President, no one can touch the Finance Minister. I've said it before and I'll say it again: this Finance Minister has no regard for Parliament, no respect for this august House, and he's just proved it once more. This is about the fifth time he has attempted to flee the House of Commons. Last week, he was supposed to appear on Tuesday, but it was pushed to Thursday, and it was shifted again to Thursday, and he has repeatedly failed to show up," Mr Fuseini revealed.
"No one has presented a legitimate reason why the Finance Minister is not here today," he continued. As a result, it is evident that his reluctance to appear before the House is contemptible. For me, it's his determination to avoid being held accountable.
"The Finance Minister, who is in charge of public monies, has grossly failed to account for the money." He's running a really shady operation. He can't account for our money because he's using an opaque system. That is why he is always running away."
