Eddie Nketiah and Tariq Lamptey are allegedly close to qualifying for the Ghanaian national team.

The pair, who have a combined 56 caps for England's junior sides, have been in contact with the Ghanaian Football Association, which just named Chris Hughton as technical director.

Nketiah and Lamptey were born in London but are of Ghanaian descent, so they will have an easier time finding international possibilities in the African country.

They are two of three players who, according to Ghana Soccernet, will receive FIFA approval as soon as next week.

According to the article, the Ghanaian FA is having difficulty processing the planned nationality transfers of Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has made three senior appearances for England, and Inaki Williams, a one-cap Spain international.

If Nketiah and Lamptey gain eligibility as predicted, they might make their debuts in September and play in the World Cup later that year.

Since qualifying for the tournament in Qatar by defeating Nigeria in a play-off in March, Ghana has increased their efforts to persuade players to swap allegiances. In the group stages, they will face Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.

With 16 goals in 17 games for England's under-21s, Arsenal forward Nketiah is the all-time leading goalscorer, but a call-up to Gareth Southgate's senior side has yet to materialise.

Meanwhile, Brighton full-back Lamptey last played for the under-21s in March, but he turned down a call-up from Lee Carsley for the European Championship qualifiers this month.

'It has been requested of him.'

'He's requested to be left out of the squad to give him some breathing room,' Carsley added.

'He's not switched, it's not entrenched or anything, but he's taken an attitude, which we admire.'

'We've made it plain how much we value his presence in our lives.' The senior team, I'm sure, has as well. Tariq is well aware of how vital it is for us to visit him - I've called him every day!

'I probably shouldn't have pushed him,' I admit. There's only so many times you can make something clear. He is aware of our position on him. We understand he has a choice to make.
