Manchester United are reportedly in a bidding war for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse, with Newcastle United and West Ham United also interested.

Following the exits of Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, and Jesse Lingard, Erik ten Hag is looking for midfield reinforcements. In the midst of the park, Ten Hag now has few options.

They are reportedly interested in Ward-Prowse, 27, who has had a fantastic season with the Saints, according to The Sun. For Ralph Hassenhuttl's team, the English midfielder made 42 appearances, scoring 11 goals and assisting on eight occasions.

He was nominated for the Premier League's 'Player of the Year' award alongside Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne, who went on to win.

Manchester United, Newcastle United, or West Ham United are reportedly interested in luring Ward-Prowse away from St Mary's for £75 million (via The Sun).

Erik ten Hag's summer budget is expected to be slashed significantly as a result, but with pre-season approaching, time is of the essence for the Dutch coach.

Manchester United has also been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, as rumours of a deal intensify.

According to the Express, Barcelona has assured Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski that they will work out their finances in order to sign him.

As a result, De Jong's possible sale to the Red Devils is believed to play a role in this.

Newcastle United and West Ham United are both on the lookout for new players. Manchester United could benefit from the addition of James Ward-Prowse.

Despite having players like Cristiano Ronaldo and David De Gea at the club, the Red Devils lacked leadership last season.

Harry Maguire's lack of influence as club captain and defender was criticized throughout the season.

According to reports, Erik ten Hag will meet with the English defender to discuss his duties as captain (per Express).

Ward-Prowse has thrived as Southampton captain, demonstrating tenacity and resolve during his time in charge.

He shares characteristics with West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, who United is also interested in.

The problem with pursuing Rice is the enormous amount demanded by West Ham for the midfielder. According to the Mail, the Hammers want £150 million for their midfielder.

As a result, Ward-Prowse appears to be a viable option for the Red Devils. He only recently signed a new contract extension with Southampton, which will keep him at the club for another four years.
