LaLiga and Real Madrid lodged a protest against PSG regarding Mbappe
The Spanish league has filed a complaint with UEFA against Paris Saint-Germain, alleging that the French club violated financial fair play rules by offering Kylian Mbappé a new contract that convinced him to reject a move to Real Madrid on Wednesday.
The league said this week that it had denounced PSG to UEFA, adding to a similar complaint it had made in April against Manchester City, which it claims also "continuously fails to comply with the current financial fair play regulations."
The Spanish league also stated that it has hired law firms in France and Switzerland in order to take additional legal action "as soon as possible before the relevant bodies in France and the European Union."
"LaLiga believes that these practices harm the ecosystem and sustainability of soccer, harm all European clubs and leagues, and only serve to artificially inflate the market with money generated outside of soccer," the league said in a statement.
Following Mbappé's rejection of Madrid last month, the Spanish league declared that the player's new three-year contract with PSG was "scandalous" and jeopardized European soccer's economic stability.
"LaLiga understands that these clubs are being improperly financed, either directly or through sponsorships and other contracts that do not correspond to market conditions or make economic sense," the league said on Wednesday.
However, there was no evidence to back up the claims in the statement.
The Spanish league claims that it would be financially impossible for PSG to reach an agreement with Mbappé while maintaining an expensive squad that includes Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Disregard for financial integrity rules
Spanish league president Javier Tebas has frequently chastised state-owned clubs for allegedly flouting financial fair play regulations. He called Mbappé's decision to stay with PSG a "INSULT to soccer" after the news broke.
The French league later wrote Tebas a letter criticizing and dismissing his attacks.
The Spanish league has also stated that it is considering legal action against PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi for "conflict of interest" due to his roles with UEFA and other soccer-related organizations.
