The final decision on the €58 million-rated striker is expected next week
The addition of Erling Haaland makes City an even scarier proposition for next season, but it was bad news for Gabriel Jesus, who began to make significant contributions towards the end of the season.
Jesus has never been the undisputed starter at Manchester City, but he has scored at least ten goals in every full season he has spent in England, and if he does move to Arsenal, he could be the type of player who thrives on being the main man.
There have been numerous reports about a possible move to the Emirates, but a deal worth €58 million could be finalized next week, according to Portuguese outlet Globo as a decision is expected that soon.
Arsenal sold the Gabonese international to Barcelona at the end of the winter transfer window, leaving Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as their only two senior strikers. With Lacazette leaving on a free transfer to Lyon in the summer and Nketiah's contract renewal still up in the air, the club will require at least one striker for the new season.
Although no agreement has been reached, Jesus has been tipped to be that man. However, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano's Caught Offside column, the north London club will contact City again today in an attempt to sign the Brazilian.
According to Romano, Jesus remains Arsenal's primary offensive target heading into the new season. If an agreement for the attacker, who can also play out wide, cannot be reached, the Gunners will move on to other targets in an attempt to resolve their striker search.
Jesus will '100%' leave City, according to Romano, citing his desire to start for a top team. Given the arrivals of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, he is unlikely to see much action for City next season. If Arsenal are unable to reach an agreement with him, other clubs will look to sign him.
