Five Man City games that will influence their Premier League title challenge against Liverpool FC
The Premier League schedule for 2022–2023 has been released, and Manchester City and Liverpool may have to fight their way to the championship (win the league).
This summer, Pep Guardiola plans to add players to his Man City roster.
As the Blues prepare to compete with Liverpool for the title once more, Manchester City and their supporters will be searching the new Premier League fixture list for any advantages they can find. It's a contemporary rivalry that has recently been decided twice on the final day, thus any slight edge in any match could mean the difference between winning and losing the League. On paper, the majority of City's tougher games are sandwiched between easier ones, making their schedule pleasing. However, due to the season's relentless pace, many games will be played with only two or three days' notice.
City will aim for three points in every game, but they will focus on five games in particular since they might make or break their chances of winning the title.
"West Ham" (A)
City's first few days couldn't have been much more difficult. An away trip to an ever-improving West Ham is likely as challenging as it gets because it's uncommon for the Premier League to schedule a match between two major clubs on the first weekend.West Ham held City to a draw at the London Stadium in May as the Blues closed in on the title, and they won't have any room for a sluggish start against David Moyes' team in August - especially with Liverpool taking on Fulham, which could provide an easier opportunity to start the game with three points.
Liverpool (A)
Following West Ham, City's opening ten games are not very difficult; the biggest challenges come at home against Tottenham and Manchester United, whereas Liverpool's opening ten games include trips to United, Everton, Chelsea, and Arsenal. It is the first time at Anfield that the two likely title contenders will face off, therefore it is an important game for both teams. Both teams will be in their groove, and past performance indicates that a win at this point in the season may effectively end any hopes of one team catching the other if it had a shaky start. Both managers will be aware of how crucial it would be to take points away from their opponents after last season's high-calibre but tense Anfield match ended in a 2-2 draw. Future outcomes of this October encounter could be key as City and Liverpool try to score a blow against one another.
Chelsea (A)
After the World Cup break, City resumes play at Leeds on Boxing Day, followed by a home match against Everton on New Year's Eve. The first game of 2023 is then played at Chelsea only 48 hours later. There is no forecasting the status of City's team after the World Cup and two quick-fire holiday games, making it one of the toughest of the season anyway. However, they will need to be at their best to defeat Chelsea, who will aim to present a greater challenge than they did in the previous campaign, when they faltered in the new year.
Liverpool (H)
After the March international break, City will host Liverpool at the Etihad on April 1 with only ten games remaining. Even if there are still 27 points up for grabs after that game, both teams will know by this time how likely their title chances are.Especially given that they appear to have a more difficult run-in, City will be pleased to play Liverpool at home in their second encounter. The toughest games for Liverpool are at home against Arsenal, Spurs, and two trips to West Ham and Leicester. They also play against Leicester, Arsenal, and Chelsea, as well as trips to Southampton and Brighton. If either team could win, it would set the stage for a tight second half of the season.
Chelsea (H)
Both teams have games they should win on the last day when they are away in the south, giving City one more chance to make a mistake in their final home game against Chelsea.
