Kathleen Addy Is Confirmed As NCCE Chairperson By Akufo-Addo

Ms. Kathleen Addy has been confirmed and sworn in as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (NCCE).

 

From 2017 until April 2022, Ms. Addy served as the National Commission for Civic Education's Deputy Chairperson in Charge of Finance and Administration.

 

 

 

On May 1, 2022, she was named Acting Chairperson in accordance with Article 232 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 4 (a) of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Act, 1993. (Act 452).

 

 

 

The president's confirmation of Miss Addy's appointment is contingent on the advice of the Council of State, as stated in Article 232 (2) of the 1992 constitution, which specifies that "members of the Commission must advise the president."

The President, acting on the recommendation of the Council of State, shall appoint them."

 

 

 

"I am glad to inform you that the President of the Republic has appointed you to function as Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education, pending receipt of the legally mandated consultation with the Council of State," Nana Bediatuo added.

 

 

 

Kathleen Addy graduated from the University of Ghana with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in communications from the University of Ghana School of Communications Studies. Madam Addy received her GCE O-Level certificate from Achimota School and her GCE A-Level certificate from Holy Child College.

Addy used to work at the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) as the Afrobarometer communications coordinator, with supervision authority for seven countries in East and West Africa.

 

 

 

Madam Addy is a seasoned communicator with over 20 years of expertise. She is also a feminist activist who is passionate about women's emancipation and decent governance. Before joining the NCCE, she worked with CDD-Ghana, the Afrobarometer Project, and the Centre for Policy Analysis.
