Rodrygo has stated that Mohamed Salah's confidence ahead of the Champions League final boosted Real Madrid's desire to win.

Rodrygo has maintained his verbal sparring with Salah.

Salah stated openly in the build-up to the game that he had a score to settle with Real after Liverpool lost to Los Blancos in 2018. However, Jurgen Klopp's side did not get their revenge as they were defeated 1-0 by Vinicius Junior.

Salah has since claimed that Liverpool deserved to win the game, a claim backed up by statistics, but Rodrygo was not having it, and has now revealed that Salah's statements may have backfired.

"Sometimes you just want to win so you can make fun of a guy who annoys you," he told Podpah. "We used to yell in training, 'Come on Salah, come on Salah.'

"It was already in our heads that we needed to win in order to make fun of Salah."

"After the final, we passed the Liverpool players in the corridor," he added. "Try again next time," [Luka] Modric suggested to Salah, who was sad.

Salah was unable to make amends for his disappointment in 2018, going up against Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. As Liverpool attempted to make their dominance count, the Belgian put on one of the greatest performances of all time, bailing his side out time and time again.

After a 59th-minute goal from Vinicius, Real Madrid celebrated at the last whistle, forcing Salah to wait a little longer for his retribution.

There could be a slew of new signings: Frenkie de Jong, valued at £67.5 million, remains a priority target, while Raphinha of Leeds is also on the radar. One name that comes up frequently is Jurrien Timber, and United have long admired Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Brentford's Christian Eriksen, who is out of agreement near the end of the season, is one slightly unusual probable buy.
