Angel Di Maria agrees deal with European giant amid impending PSG departure
By Ben Browning Published: May 17, 2022 1:18 pmLast Updated: May 17, 2022 4:17 pm Argentine winger Angel Di Maria will be lining up for another European giant in the form of Juventus next season after his contract with PSG comes to an end. The veteran forward joined the Parisians after a woeful spell at Manchester United, and will end his career in France just short of 300 appearances for the Ligue 1 Champions. Like at Real Madrid, he has been forced to play second-fiddle, first to Neymar, then Kylian Mbappe and finally to Lionel Messi, as he has often been overlooked in favour of the aforementioned trio. Out of contract this summer, the 34-year-old is set to move on. And, as per Goal France, he is set to join Juventus and a fourth different top-flight league this summer, with the Old Lady having agreed a 1-year contract with the prospect of another year dependent on performances. Meanwhile, the Turin side, who are going a second season without a league title, are also thought to be in conversation over potentially bringing Paul Pogba to the club on a free too, following his unsuccessful six-year spell at Manchester United. They will, however, be losing Paulo Dybala on a free this summer, whose tearful farewell took place in their final home game of the season. Juventus can only sign Real Madrid star on loan
Juventus continues to show interest in Marco Asensio as the Spaniard struggles to agree to terms of a new deal with Real Madrid. He could be available on the market this summer and Juve wants to add him to their squad if they cannot sign Angel di Maria. The former PSG man is taking too much time before responding to their offer, and they are now looking for Plan B. They believe Asensio can also deliver fine performances for them at the Allianz Stadium. However, Tuttojuve reports that they will only make a move for him if the transfer will be on loan. They cannot afford to sign him for a transfer fee now and will hope Madrid will agree to send him out temporarily. Juve FC Says Asensio has been a fine player for Madrid and he made contributions to their success in this year’s Champions League. The Spaniard is still just 26, and he has so much more football to play at the highest level. Hopefully, our move for Di Maria will be a success, but Asensio will not be the worst alternative to the Argentinian. It would be interesting to see if the former Mallorca man will be open to playing outside Spain as well.
Juventus raise their offer for a free agent who’s reluctant to sign
After weeks or perhaps even months of negotiations, Angel Di Maria’s potential transfer to Juventus is becoming one of the summer transfer market’s soap operas. The Argentine has ended a seven-year stint at Paris Saint Germain and is looking to find a new club in Europe before returning to his home country a year later. According to Calciomercato, Di Maria will soon end his vacation and make a quick visit to Paris in the weekend, while his future could be decided in the coming days. The source believes that the Barcelona track remains possible, but the Catalans will first have to understand if they will have the necessary funds to launch an assault on the market. If the Blaugrana fail to mount a decent proposal for the 34-year-old, then Juventus will be his most enticing destination on all levels. Moreover, the report claims that the Italian club has improved its offer for the veteran winger from 5.5 million euros plus bonuses to a figure between 6.5 and 7 millions with add-ons. Additionally, the Bianconeri’s initial two-year deal proposal is no longer on the table, as the club has already accepted the player’s request for a one-year deal, even if it means missing out on the benefits of the Growth Decree (saving 50% on taxes). So while it appears that Juventus have done everything within their power to convince Di Maria, the latter will have a decision to make in the next few days, as the club can’t afford to wait any longer.
