According to Calciomercato, Manchester United have started significant moves to capture wantaway Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, but will face competition from Chelsea.
The Red Devils are looking for a new midfielder this summer, and Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona has been linked to the club.
However, according to Calciomercato, Rabiot is also on United's radar, and the club has taken "solid moves" to sign him.
While Manchester United have no trouble reaching the €15 million (£13 million) asking price, it is said that convincing him to transfer to Old Trafford will be difficult.
United will have competition for Rabiot's signature, with the source saying that Chelsea, Atletico Madrid,In addition, Atletico Madrid and former club Paris Saint-Germain have been identified as possible suitors.
Rabiot was nearly always in the starting eleven for Juventus last season, but he is set to leave the club this summer after rejecting a new contract with a wage cut.
The France international would be an excellent addition for United since he is an excellent tackler who can also hold up play and provide important passes.
Erik ten Hag, Manchester United
United should not be concerned about the transfer fee or wage demands, but they may miss out on signing him owing to a lack of Champions League action.
Chelsea have also been extensively connected with the 27-year-old, and they may have the advantage due to their qualification for the premier European competition.
Meanwhile, unlike Manchester United, who are in a phase of transition, the west London powerhouse are an established club under manager Thomas Tuchel.
This could be the reason for Rabiot's reluctance to join United, but the club's hierarchy will still try to entice him with a large wage increase and a guaranteed starting berth.
United are yet to make a summer acquisition, but they appear to be focusing on their midfield. They have also recently been linked with a bid for PSV's Ibrahim Sangare.
