Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, has backed "suffering" Gerard Pique and stated that he will not retire from football.

After 11 years together, Pique, 35, and Shakira confirmed their separation last month.

According to reports in Spain, the centre-back had strayed from the Colombian music diva, but neither party has responded to the claims.

Pique, according to Laporta, is a "wonderful person" who deserves Barcelona's support.

According to Laporta: "Pique is in pain. We have athletes with fame, money, and all we want in our imaginations, but they are people, and Pique is a terrific guy." He is one of the captains, he is fortunate, and he has provided and must continue to offer a lot to us.

"And he's been through a difficult situation with children at a young age, and Pique is deserving of the supporters' admiration and affection." Pay no attention to the news that tries to portray him as a carefree, emotionless man who has lost touch with reality.

"I consider myself fortunate to have met him and to have treated him as a human being. "And we have to help him because he is an incredible guy who is suffering." I'll be the first to show him the affection he so well deserves."

Pique, according to Laporta, has opted not to retire from football and pursue a career as a full-time entrepreneur.

When hacked conversations revealed Pique's company made £20 million from the Spanish Super Cup held in Saudi Arabia in 2019, the defender was accused of unethical deals.

The Barcelona defender was adamant in his denial of any wrongdoing.

And it was recently revealed that Barcelona and Xavi were privately hoping that Pique would retire from football to pursue other opportunities, saving them £70 million in salary.

Those recommendations, however, were rejected.

According to Laporta: "Pique has decided to pursue a career as a professional footballer. He had the option of being either a businessman or a footballer, and he picked the latter."
