Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Food and Agriculture, has urged farmers to use Zoomlion Ghana Limited's locally manufactured organic compost on their fields to increase crop yields in the country.
In the midst of a worldwide fertilizer scarcity, he expressed delight with the company's private sector commitment to revolutionize the business and generate mass organic fertilizer.
He stated that, as a result of the shortfall, the government is moving quickly to embrace organic fertilizer produced and provided by Ghanaian enterprises to address the problem of fertilizer scarcity.
After a visit of the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant, the Minister made the announcement to press (KCARP).
He blamed the world's chemical fertilizer scarcity on the upheavals in Ukraine and Russia, and offered advice. Ghanaian farmers should buy locally produced goods.
As part of his working tour to the Ashanti Region, Mr Akoto visited a liquid fertilizer facility in the Atwima Nwabiagya District and farmer organizations in other areas of the Ashanti Region to examine progress and difficulties relating to agriculture.
"During my tour of the areas in Ghana, I was also very surprised by the virtually instantaneous need for organic fertilizer," the tour guide added.
He went on to say that the government will subsidize organic fertilizer and that the bar for local enterprises to produce organic fertilizer would be raised proportionately.
KCARP
KCARP, a subsidiary of Zoomlion Ghana Limited and part of the Jospong Group of Companies' (JGC) Environment and Sanitation Cluster, is expected to be the largest of its type in Ghana.
It accepts all types of garbage, processes it to create high-quality organic fertilizer, and recycles the plastics into usable goods such as waste bins, tables, chairs, and other storage containers.
Mr. Eugine Amoh-Asamoa, KCARP's Communication and Corporate Affairs Manager, stated the company produces around 3,000 (25kg) bags every day, with 35,000 bags produced monthly.
He claims that KCARP's fertilizer is incredibly powerful and filled with natural nutrients, allowing the country to grow more organic food and veggies for consumption.
He told the Minister that whenever demand improved, the firm would boost output.
Zoomlion is now constructing the IRECOP idea in all 16 areas, each of which is at a different stage of development.
