Rodrygo exposes what Modric told Salah following the Champions League final
Salah's pre-match speech was not well received by Real Madrid fans.
Nobody at Real Madrid has fully recovered from their 14th Champions League victory, and how could they?
For many members of the squad, it was just another European victory, but for others, it was their first.
That was the case with Rodrygo Goes, who was one of the European campaign's unsung heroes, particularly with his goals against Manchester City in the semi-final.
Rodrygo told a number of anecdotes during an interview with the Cortes Podcast. One, however, stood out above the rest because he revealed some words from Luka Modric to Mohamed Salah after the final whistle in Paris.
"I must tell a funny anecdote," Rodrygo explained. "After the Champions League final, we formed a guard of honour for the Liverpool players."
"Dejectedly, Salah passed by, and Modric, who was on the other side, greeted him and said, 'you can try again next time.'"
Rodrygo stated emphatically that Real Madrid had used Salah's pre-match comments as motivation, with the Egyptian speaking frequently about vengeance in the days leading up to the game.
Last month, Real Madrid defeated Liverpool to win the Champions League in Paris.
It was an incredible way to cap off an incredible campaign. Madrid had to beat PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City in a row before facing Liverpool – one of the most difficult runs to a final in recent memory.
One of the most significant figures in that run was Luka Modric was the player. The Croatian is a competitive beast who delivered clutch moments when needed.
Rodrygo Goes, who was on vacation in Brazil at the time, recalled an anecdote from the final that demonstrated Modric's competitive edge. He claimed that after the game, when Mohamed Salah passed Modric, Modric told him to try again the next time.
He was clearly referring to the numerous interviews Salah gave prior to the game, in which he repeatedly stated that he was out to exact revenge on Madrid after Liverpool lost to the Spanish club in the previous Champions League final in 2018.
