However, according to SPORT, Laporta has put an end to any speculation regarding the academy graduate leaving Catalonia.
"Gavi's new contract [negotiation] is about to end," he said. "We're in the process of renewing Gavi, and we're approaching the final phase."
Gavi's release clause is scheduled to raise to £85.8 million this month, according to sources earlier this week.
Last season, the smooth midfielder appeared in 47 games for Barcelona, scoring two goals and grabbing six assists.

"We're concluding contracts with Araujo for the present and the future," Laporta remarked.
We have Nico, Gavi (on whose contract we are now working), and a 19-year-old Racing de Santander player.
"We're putting together a team."
Xavi, Barca's manager, is likewise keen to keep hold of Gavi's extraordinary skill.
"He's really good at recovering possession, getting the ball away from the opponents," he stated earlier this year. He's a fierce competitor. He knows how to deal with the press, and he's very good at it. " When we want to play between the lines, he turns really well.
"However, he must manage himself - he must find the proper resources at the right time, knowing when to attack the space more effectively, when to let the wingers run, and when to pass." He needs to improve in certain tactical scenarios. He's a fantastic athlete and a joy to work with.
"To have made such an impression and play for the national team at the age of 17 is incredible."
