FORMER Teddy Sheringham, a Manchester United striker, believes the team needs to add at least six players this summer.
Last season, the Red Devils had yet another terrible season.
They not only missed out on Champions League football, but they also finished with only 58 points, their lowest total since the 1989-90 season.
Officials at Manchester United are hopeful that the appointment of new manager Erik ten Hag would help them turn things around, but Sheringham believes there is still a lot more work to be done.
According to Football365, upon chatting with Lord Ping, he advised that the club needs to sign six players.
He stated, " "United requires reinforcements all over the field. In particular, at the center of the field, in the center forward position, and on the wings.
"We're looking at bringing in five or six top players. You need players that have the appropriate personality, understand the magnitude of the assignment, and are ready to get United back to where they belong.
"It's a huge undertaking. From a player's perspective, if you had to choose between City and United right now, you'd select City every time." You want to play with the finest players as a player. Top players would jump at the chance to play alongside [Kevin] De Bruyne or any of City's other world-class players; the list is infinite." They are champions, and they will compete for every trophy next season.
"That isn't what you see when you look at Manchester United. At the moment, there isn't anyone performing. It's a rather depressing thought.
"Everything may change very rapidly if Ten Hag goes in there and turns things around."
So far in the transfer window, Manchester United has lagged behind its Premier League opponents.
While Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool have all announced new signings, the Red Devils have yet to do so.
They have, however, been widely linked with a move for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.
After a successful period together at Ajax, Ten Hag is delighted to reunite with the 25-year-old.
The Spanish giants, on the other hand, are looking for roughly £70 million for his talents.
Christian Eriksen, who will leave Brentford when his contract ends at the end of this month, has also piqued United's attention.
The team has already made an offer, but rumors say that he want to remain in London.
