Sadio Mane is set to leave Liverpool after the club accepted a £35 million bid for the forward.

FORMER Sadio Mane, according to Liverpool striker Dean Saunders, will "ruin the best two years" of his footballing career at Bayern Munich.

After deciding to leave the club this summer, the Reds accepted a £35 million deal for the Senegalese striker.

However, 57-year-old Saunders believes that a move to the Bundesliga will not be enough of a "challenging" for Mane, who is 30 years old.

Bayern Munich has won the German Bundesliga for the past TEN seasons.

"Nothing against the club, it's a great club," Saunders said on talkSPORT. "But the league is nowhere near a challenge for Mane."

He'll be able to score goals. They win 5-0 every week, and the league can only be won by one team.

"This isn't a test. He'll curl up in his recliner with a cigar, play for Bayern in third gear for two years, and squander the best two years of his career as a footballer. If he told you to come look at his trophy cabinet at the conclusion of his career, the German league champions medal would be right in the back."

Mane has six championships to his name at Anfield, including the Champions League and Premier League, and Saunders is baffled as to why the attacker would want to go.

In the most recent season, Liverpool won a domestic cup double, falling barely shy of an unprecedented quadruple.

"I can't believe he's leaving Liverpool," Saunders continued. "I don't know how it's come to this." He's 30, and in all of his time at the club, he's played his greatest football in the last six months, and he's been unstoppable at times."

Mane switched from playing on the left to becoming Jurgen Klopp's main striker after Luis Diaz's arrival in January, a move that saw him score eight goals in 14 Premier League games after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Saunders came to the following conclusion: "When Diaz signed, he moved up the middle and began to get better at finding the pockets and linking the play up.

"I don't see why you'd want to leave Liverpool right now, when you're playing the best football of his life in the best front-three combination he'll ever play in, to join Bayern Munich."
