Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, is now regarded as one of the greatest in Europe. Since taking over at Anfield in 2015, the German has dramatically altered the club.
The Reds have won six titles under the 55-year-old boss, including one Premier League crown and one UEFA Champions League victory. In addition, he has won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Klopp is well-known for his transfer market savvy. In recent years, he has discovered and nurtured countless talents into global superstars. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Virgil van Dijk are just a few of the players who have flourished under the German.
He did, however, make a few errors when it came to signing fresh players. On that topic, here's a rundown of Klopp's three worst signings at Anfield.
#1 Dominic Solanke
Dominic Solanke of Bournemouth is one of the best attackers in England right now. He scored 29 goals in 46 EFL Championship matches to help the Cherries gain promotion to the Premier League last season.
His time at Anfield, on the other hand, was not particularly profitable. He moved to Liverpool from Chelsea during the 2017 summer transfer window. At Anfield, the England international struggled to make an impact, scoring only once in 21 games. In 2019, the Merseysiders transferred him to Bournemouth for £19 million, where he is now employed.
#2 Loris Karius
Loris Karius was signed by Jurgen Klopp in 2016 after a breakthrough season with FC Mainz in the Bundesliga. At the time of joining Liverpool, the Biberach-born goalkeeper was seen as Manuel Neuer's successor in the German national team.
He, on the other hand, failed to live up to the hype, appearing in only 29 league games during his stay at Anfield. He committed two egregious blunders in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final, which resulted in them losing the championship to Real Madrid.
After that game, the former Germany youth international never regained Klopp's trust. During the summer transfer window of 2018, he was loaned to Besiktas. Before joining Union Berlin on loan for the 2019-20 season, he played two seasons on loan with the Turkish club.
Karius returned to Anfield at the start of last season but was unable to reclaim his place in the starting lineup. The former Mainz goalkeeper's contract will end on July 1st, and the Reds have announced that he will depart the club.
#3 Marko Grujic
When Marko Grujic joined Liverpool from Red Bull Salzburg in the January transfer window of 2016, he was one of Europe's most promising midfielders.
However, the Serbian international did not live up to his promise during his tenure at Anfield, appearing in only eight Premier League games. During his stint with the Merseysiders, Grujic was loaned out to Cardiff City, Hertha Berlin, and Porto.
At the start of the season, he became a permanent member of FC Porto. It's reasonable to argue that the Serbian is one of Klopp's worst purchases with the Reds.
