According to the Spanish press Real Madrid are planning a move for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland

AS reports that Real Madrid are already considering a move for Erling Haaland, just days after his arrival at the Etihad Stadium was officially confirmed.

Madrid has already been left licking their wounds this transfer window after failing to sign Kylian Mbappe after he agreed to sign a new contract with PSG. They were also thought to be interested in Haaland, but City beat them to his signature.

Earlier this week, Madrid president Florentino Perez slammed City's deal for Haaland, claiming that the Norwegian would only make the bench if he moved to the Bernabeu.

However, according to Spanish media outlet AS, Real Madrid are already planning a move for the youngster in two years.

Real see Haaland as the ideal replacement for Karim Benzema, according to the report. They claim that Madrid had asked Haaland to stay at Borussia Dortmund for another year before moving to La Liga, but his 'determination' to leave this year led to his signing with City.

According to AS, Haaland's contract includes a €150 million release clause that he inserted because he "wishes" to play for Real Madrid in the future. When he arrived at the Etihad, the 21-year-old expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing for the Blues next season.

he said "This is a proud day for me and My household. I've always enjoyed watching City, especially in recent seasons.

According to the report, Madrid's interest is not a direct reaction to a surprise snub by Kylian Mbappe, who chose to stay with Paris Saint-Germain after being tracked by the Spanish champions for a long time.

Instead, Mbappe was supposed to join this summer, followed by Haaland in 2023 - though the new City striker had already joined Pep Guardiola's side before Mbappe decided to stay at the Parc des Princes.

Madrid, on the other hand, are thought to be patient in their pursuit of Haaland due to Karim Benzema's impressive late-career form.

The 34-year-old had his best season at the Bernabeu in his 13-year career, scoring 44 goals in 46 games to help the club win both the Spanish league and the Champions League.

Madrid had planned to sign Mbappe and Haaland to replace the France star in the event of a natural decline in performance, but his unexpected star campaign, which has put him in contention for the Ballon d'Or this year, has reduced the urgency of a new striker search.
