Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League, missing out on a place in the UEFA Champions League, which means Cristiano Ronaldo will play in the Europa League next season.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have the greatest rivalry in football history, and they are without a doubt the greatest players of all time due to their consistency and longevity. But, because of the records he has set in the Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo is regarded as the best player in the competition's history. It's a shame that the 37-year-old striker won't be playing in the competition he adores next season.

Lionel Messi trails Cristiano Ronaldo in numerous champions league records set by the Portuguese; the Argentine international has an opportunity to break many of Ronaldo's records in the competition next season. Here are ten of Ronaldo's records that Messi could break next season.

1. Most Champions League goals: Cristiano Ronaldo has 140, while Messi has 125; Messi needs to score 15 more to tie the record.

2. Most champions league assists.

Messi has 36, Ronaldo has 42.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo has the most goals scored in a single Champions League campaign (17).

4. Most Champions League Hattricks: Ronaldo and Messi both have eight hattricks in the competition, which Messi hopes to surpass next season.
