MANCHESTER UNITED are wary of repeating the same transfer blunders made under John Murtough in the past.
Manchester United's Premier League Schedule for 2022/23
Manchester United reportedly turned down four acquisitions during John Murtough's tenure. And, while fans are becoming frustrated with the club's lack of activity, it says volumes. The Red Devils have just made too many mistakes in recent years, something they are ready to fix as they seek to restore Old Trafford's glory days.
Manchester United have spent over £1 billion since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure, yet have yet to win a Premier League or Champions League championship.
However, the Red Devils now believe they are more prepared than others to bring in the proper players.
Ed Woodward is no longer in charge of Manchester United, having left the club earlier in 2022 after nine years in charge.
United's structure is much more simplified these days. With more people participating.
The United co-owner Joel Glazer is at the top of the tree, signing off transactions while managing the club from America.
Glazer supervises Richard Arnold, who was appointed as Woodward's replacement.
Murtough and Darren Fletcher, who both secured contracts at the club last year, are now playing a vital part in recruitment.
Under Murtough, United reportedly turned down four signings. The Telegraph reported on this at the beginning of the month.
Although no names were given, it appears that the Red Devils are no longer ready to accept bodies simply for the purpose of it. Instead, they're scrutinizing targets far more closely than previously.
There have been more hits than misses since Ferguson's departure. That's an awful truth that even Woodward acknowledges.
Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata both arrived when David Moyes was in charge. While Fellaini was not everyone's favorite player for United, he was a hit.
Mata, who recently departed Old Trafford on a free transfer, feels the same way.
Manchester United transfer news Murtough, John
Manchester United's transfer policy is overseen by John Murtough.
Anthony Martial was an early success for Louis van Gaal. Luke Shaw has been terrific value for money, if a little erratic, while Ander Herrera was a fan favorite throughout his time at the club.
But, under the Dutchman, United made far too many bad signings, from Memphis Depay to Bastian Schweinsteiger, Radamel Falcao to Angel Di Maria.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was a standout recruit for Jose Mourinho, with Nemanja Matic also performing well.
However, Paul Pogba never lived up to his full potential, while Eric Bailly, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all fell short of expectations.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani (in his debut season), and Bruno Fernandes all scored for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Jadon Sancho might still join that club, despite failing to live up to expectations since joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
However, Odion Ighalo, Donny van de Beek, Harry Maguire, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka failed to make an impression under the Norwegian.
United appear to be learning from their mistakes now that Erik ten Hag is in charge.
And whether this signifies an improvement in fortunes, particularly after last season's horror show, remains to be seen.
Teddy Sheringham, a former United striker, believes his old team needs five or six fresh faces to recover.
"United need reinforcements across the pitch," he recently stated. Particularly in the center midfield, center forward, and on the wings.
We're looking at five or six top players coming in."
You need players that have the appropriate personality, understand the magnitude of the assignment, and are eager to get United back to where they belong.
"It's a tremendous task. From a player's perspective, if you had to choose between City and United right now, you'd go with City every time.
"You want to play with the best players as a player." Top players would want to play with De Bruyne or any of City's other world-class players; the list is infinite.
"They are champs, and they will compete for everything next season." That is not apparent when looking at Manchester United.
There is no one performing at the moment. It's a depressing thought.
