Arsenal technical director Edu has claimed that young Eddie Nketiah, who is a target for the Black Stars, will be an important player for the club after signing a new contract to stay with the English Premier League club. The 23-year-old, who was set to be out of contract at the end of the month, signed the contract on Saturday, just two weeks before his previous deal was set to expire.
The signing of a new contract with the London-based team puts an end to months of speculation over his future with the club.Since his debut in 2017, Nketiah has appeared in 92 first-team games for Arsenal, scoring 23 goals in the process.
Nketiah was on fire at the close of last season, starting all eight of Arsenal's league games and scoring five goals.
According to the club's technical director, Nketiah will be an important pillar in the Gunners' goal to develop a futuristic team. "This squad's foundations are founded on youthful talent, particularly those who have come through our academy system," Edu remarked after Nketiah signed the new contract on Saturday.
"Eddie was released by another club when he was a young man, but he has always demonstrated that he possesses both the mentality and the potential to become a great player."
