Joseph Kpemka Dindiok, a former Deputy Attorney General, has stated that the National Cathedral project is required.
He stated that it was necessary to secure its success in order for the people to gain.
"The project is vital, and we must assure its success in order for the benefits to reach the people," he stated on Saturday's Key Points on TV3.
"It is my hope that this project will be completed before the next administration takes office," he continued.
For his part, Cape Coast South Member of Parliament Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan stated the project's fundamental issue is the administration of President Akufo-dishonesty Addo's over the projects.
He added that the initiative was first camouflaged as a private venture until the state began putting public cash into it.
There is nothing wrong with erecting the cathedral, in his opinion.
"He never said he was building the cathedral for Ghanaians," he said on the same show, "the cathedral was being built in honour of the president's pledge that if God helps him win the 2016 elections, he will build his church in his name, which has been done in the past, as I said, by Kings and other people." That is perfectly OK.
"I can choose to build the cathedral to honor God if I win the next elections in Cape Coast; that is my personal commitment; I am not building the cathedral for the people of Cape Coast; finally, all these churches or cathedrals built by Kings and Queens were created as their personal staff." In the end, it became a national treasure.
"You have St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, the Vatican, Italy, which was built and is now a tourist destination; you have St Paul's Cathedral in London, the Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood in Russia for the same purpose; you have the Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, all of which have become tourist attractions."
"If you go back in history, churches were created primarily to serve God, but we now see the business side of things." As I already stated, there is no problem with it. The deception is wrong, and it is wrong for the president to tell us that he is building something that is supposed to be his personal pledge, but then becomes private and is funded by the private sector by going around the world to raise funds, only for the state to gradually and progressively fund this structure. That is the source of the issue."
The National Cathedral Secretariat has underlined, however, that the project is a public, not a private, endeavor.
"In his first official statement on the project, President Trump emphasized the project's character as a national cathedral for interdenominational worship services for the nation on March 6, 2017." The project's logic was eventually narrowed down to three primary reasons: I a gesture of appreciation, ii) a sign of the Christian presence and contributions to the nation, and iii) a personal vow to God. The personal promise became identified with the Cathedral as a "private" enterprise that needed to be created without state funding for the first of these three reasons.
"To be clear, the National Cathedral is a National Monument, and hence a public, not a private, endeavor. The National Cathedral of Ghana is a limited-by-guarantee state-owned corporation.
