GUNMEN KILL DRIVER, ASSAULT OTHERS, ROB BUSINESSMAN OF MONEY

At Ayitikope in the Volta region's Akatsi South Municipality, a team of suspected armed robbers broke into the residence of Mr Atsu Makafui Kumordzi, a lottery operator, and shot and killed a 51-year-old chauffeur.

 

Before a squad of armed police officers from Akatsi got on the scene, the thieves had made off with an undisclosed sum of money.

 

 

Makafui and Son's Corporation Limited, a private lottery company, is owned by Mr. Kumordzi, a businessman.

 

 

 

Dotsey Dogbatey, the company's driver and a father of three, died Monday night at the Akatsi Municipal Hospital after suffering gunshot wounds to the chest.

 

 

 

Other victims were attacked by the thieves, resulting in injuries.  Gakpo Yao, a victim and a firm employee who was treated and released from the hospital, informed the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the thieves forced their way into the gated premises after he returned from the day's lottery operation.

 

 

 

He said that when a coworker heard knocking at the door, he opened the gate, assuming it was another group of employees returning from the field.

 

 

 

"I was ready to place my vehicle key where we placed it after coming from the field when we observed the fully armed bandits enter the home and order us to give the whereabouts of our boss," Yao explained.

 

 

 

The thieves shot indiscriminately because they failed to show the position of their'master,' according to him.

 

Ms. Cecilia Gadasu, a resident's caterer who was assaulted, said the burglars beat her in the head, waist, and knees with metal and wooden things.

 

 

 

According to the GNA, one of the casualties, Dovlo Nagodei, was taken to the Ho Teaching Hospital for medical care owing to the severity of his head injury, while two other patients, one of whom was a woman, were being treated at the Akatsi Municipal Hospital.

 

 

 

Inspector General of Police The event was verified by Isaac Baah, the Akatsi Municipal Police Commander, who told the GNA that no arrests had been made and that the police were on the lookout for the offenders.

 

 

 

At the same residence, armed robbers assaulted and battered Mr. Kumordziat and fled with his belongings.
