Aleksandar Kolarov, a former Manchester City defender, has announced his retirement after leaving Inter Milan.
Kolarov's San Siro contract will officially expire at the end of June, bringing his two-year tenure with the Italian giants to a close.
After joining Inter from Serie A rivals Roma in September 2020, the 36-year-old made only 15 appearances for the club in all competitions, seven of which were starts.
He had played in the Italian top division with Lazio before joining City in 2010 for a seven-year tenure.
With City, the 94-cap Serbian won two Premier League crowns, an FA Cup, and two EFL Cups.
"I always knew that sooner or later this day would arrive," left-back Kolarov said in a statement issued to ANSA on Sunday announcing his retirement.
"Although I am sorry to be closing one chapter of my life, I am pleased that I was able to realize a long-held ambition."
"I'd like to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me throughout this early stage of my profession."
"First and foremost, to every teammate in the clubs where I played, as well as in the Serbian national football team, which I have always proudly represented."
"I thank the clubs, presidents, managers, coaches, technical staff, physicians, economists, physiotherapists, and everyone else who helped me along the way and worked hard behind the scenes."
Kolarov, who began his career with Cukaricki and OFK Beograd in Serbia, plans to stay in football by taking on a new position.
"I'm nearing the end of this part of my life, and I'm really pleased with what I've accomplished," he remarked.
"Right now, I'm concentrating on my 'other' life in football." I'll be starting my training as a sporting director and scout at the Italian Football Federation's national football center in Coverciano soon."
We should all be prepared to see what the future holds for Kolarov.
