When Crystal Palace hosts Arsenal at Selhurst Park to begin the 2022-23 Premier League season, Patrick Vieira will rejoin with his previous team Arsenal.

There is still a lot of work to be done before the season begins, but fans of top-flight clubs are already getting excited after the dates were announced on Thursday.

We take a look back at some of the games from the first weekend of the season.

Gunners raise the curtain once more.

Arsenal started last season with a trip to Brentford, and they will do it again this season after being assigned a Friday night match against Crystal Palace.

The Gunners had a poor start to the season in 2021-22, losing their first three games without scoring a goal.

Palace likewise had to wait until their fourth game to win, despite drawing two of their first three games.

Last season, the South Londoners were more than a match for Arsenal, drawing 2-2 at the Emirates and winning 3-0 at Selhurst Park, but they have a history of having late beginnings.

Only five of the Eagles' previous 22 seasons have begun with a win in the top flight, and they may be there for the taking.

Goals have been scored in seven of the last eight meetings between the two at Selhurst Park, with at least three in each of the last eight games.

The Reds have been given another rendezvous with the new boys.

For the fourth season in a row, Liverpool has been paired with a freshly promoted team.

The Reds will be eager to get back on track as soon as possible, and a trip to Fulham provides them with the ideal opportunity to do so.

The Cottagers will be full of confidence after winning the Championship, but a home match against Jurgen Klopp's powerful team might bring them plummeting back down to earth soon.

Fabio Carvalho moved from Fulham to Liverpool this summer, and if given some playing time, he might be a possibility to register against his former club.

In 2020-21, the hosts averted loss in both of their games with Liverpool, although a repeat performance appears doubtful.

The champions will travel to the capital.

In Manchester City's difficult opening match, Erling Haaland will be looking to make an early impression.

Manchester City's title defense begins with a challenging trip to West Ham.

Goals could be in the cards now that Erling Haaland has joined the team, with the Norwegian ace eager to make an impact right away.

City came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie 2-2 at the London Stadium last season, and would have won all three points had Riyad Mahrez not missed a late penalty.

Spurs are looking to inflict some more misery on the Saints.

Southampton has the longest winless streak in Premier League openers among the current top-flight clubs, having drawn four and lost four.

It will be difficult to improve on that record this time around, as they travel to Tottenham for one of five games scheduled for 3 p.m. on August 6.

Spurs have won six of their last nine opening-day matches, including a 1-0 home victory over City last season.

The term of Ten Hag begins at home.

Manchester United started last season with a 5-1 thrashing of Leeds United at Old Trafford.

They return to home soil for the first time in the 2022-23 season, with new manager Erik ten Hag in charge for the visit of Brighton.

The match will be the first time United has faced the Seagulls in the Premier League.

They've won all eight of their home matches against the South Coast outfit, including a 2-0 win last season.
