KYLIAN MBAPPE has slammed the president of the French Football Federation after reports that he was considering retiring from international football.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward has revealed that he considered leaving France owing to bigotry directed at him.
Mbappe's key penalty kick was saved France's
Mbappe considered retiring from international football after missing a crucial penalty at Euro 2020, which led to France's elimination. FFF chief Noel Le Graet suggested a lack of support.
The 23-year-old was "mad," according to Le Graet, since he believed the FFF had not adequately defended him for his missed penalty.
Mbappe, on the other hand, has responded on Twitter, claiming that it was racial criticism, not the missed penalty, that prompted him to ponder retirement.
He further accused Le Graet of turning a blind eye to the alleged abuse directed at him.
Mbappe penned the following: "Yes, I finally conveyed to him that it was all about racism and not about the penalty. However, he did not believe there had been any racism."
Mbappe was allegedly racially insulted online, prompting French police to open an inquiry last summer.
In December, he told CNN that the comments were "hard" to read and that they made him "hurt."
Mbappe explained: "For my country, I give my all. I offer everything I have to make the French people happy, to make everyone proud, and to receive this type of message is difficult and hurtful."
After Le Journal du Dimanche spoke to French chief Le Graet about the PSG star having second thoughts about representing the country, he responded today.
"I heard from Mbappe after the Euros, he discovered that the Federation had not protected him after his missed penalty and the network criticism," he stated.
"You know what it is, he is a winner, he was really irritated, like all of us, by the elimination [from Euro 2020]." "He was unhappy, he no longer wanted to play in the France squad - something he certainly did not think.
"He is really well-known. He's a terrific man who is a lot more cooperative than you may assume."
Mbappe, who has agreed to a £500 million contract extension with PSG, apologised to Les Bleus fans for missing a penalty last season.
Yann Sommer was the hero, saving Switzerland from a superstar to advance to the quarterfinals.
Mbappe, who did not score at the tournament, used Instagram to express his regret to the millions of people watching at home.
"The sadness is tremendous following this elimination; we were unable to achieve our goal," he stated. I apologize about the penalty. I tried but failed to assist the squad." It will be difficult to fall asleep, but it is the ups and downs of this sport that I enjoy so much." I understand your disappointment, but I still want to thank you for your continued support and belief in us.
"The most essential thing is to get back on track for the impending deadlines. Switzerland, congratulations and best wishes."
