No matter who you are, you will visit a barber shop one day. Even people who are bald still go to the barber's shop to balance their baldness. In advanced countries, barbering shops are well equipped with modern sterilizers to prevent people from contracting dangerous diseases.
In Africa, this is not the case. Most sterilizers fixed in most barbering shops are not working. They may seem so, but they are not. These barbers intentionally turn on the light so that people will think that they are safe.
This is not to scare you, but you can contract some dangerous diseases from barbershops in Africa. Sometimes, these diseases may be chronic or incurable. Next time, if you want to prevent the diseases listed below, tell the barber to clean the equipment with alcohol. You are lucky if it is not water.
HIV
If you think you are not engaging in casual bedroom activities with people and you are safe, then I would like to remind you that you can contract HIV from barbering shops if proper care is not taken.
Sharing the same blade or needle with an infected individual exposes you to this terrible condition. You cannot leave your life at the mercy of these African barbers who just want money. If you can not trust your barber, go with your alcohol.
Hepatitis
Like the human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis, especially types B and C, may be contracted from barbershops. You will need to be extra careful because the B is either incurable or difficult to treat.
