According to rumors in Spain, Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio this summer.

Over the last several seasons, the 26-year-old has been a regular in the Los Blancos lineup. In his 42 appearances during the previous season, he scored 12 goals and added two assists.

During the season, though, the Spanish international was frequently left out of the team's most important matches. Federico Valverde, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo were all ranked higher than Asensio in the pecking order.

Liverpool are interested in bringing the dynamic playmaker into Jurgen Klopp's team next season, according to Spanish source AS. According to the article, the Merseyside outfit has alerted Asensio's entourage of their plans.

According to the source, Real Madrid is willing to sell the player for €40 million, after initially signing him for about €4 million from Espanyol in 2015. (as per Transfermarkt).

Asensio, who has one year left on his present contract, wants to play a key role for a large club next season. Sadio Mane is expected to leave Anfield this summer, and Liverpool are hunting for a successor.

The Spaniard is mostly a right-winger, but he can also play in the number 10 position on the other flank. That adaptability, as well as Asensio's experience with Klopp's preferred 4-3-3 style from his time at Real Madrid, would undoubtedly appeal to the German manager.

In the wake of Liverpool's interest in Real Madrid player Marco Asensio, he admits there are "possibilities" for his future.

The 26-year-old fueled rumors about his future while on international duty this month, suggesting that he has a variety of alternatives this summer.

Asensio will be looking for more first-team action in order to cement his place in Spain's World Cup squad in Qatar later this year. "I have one year left on my contract," Asensio told reporters, according to The Mail. Now I'm concentrating on the national team. We'll discuss after this is over. We'll see what I do with my life in the future. I believe there are options. There's also the possibility of staying for the remainder of my contract year.

"Rumors are an inevitable aspect of football, especially at Real Madrid. It is always linked with high-level players. We have to accept it as a fact of life."
