Following the severe downpour, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South District, conducted a passionate visit to several flooded regions in his constituency on Friday, June 17.
The lawmaker proceeded to the numerous victims' houses in the pouring rain, full of zeal and sympathy.
Some of these victims, who lived in diverse and distant places within his authority like as Menyamewu, Ekon, London Bridge, Yawda Guam, and Kroo Town, were ravaged by torrential rains, which destroyed their belongings worth millions of Ghana Cedis.
While some were moved as the rains threatened to carry them away, others had their structures entirely destroyed.
Medical professionals, students from several senior high schools, market ladies, and others are among the victims. Among the participants were company owners, employees from various institutions, and teachers.
Kweku B3y3, as he is called among his constituents, could not only hold back his emotions but also empathize with them in their current position.
He spoke with them passionately and promised to help them with some relief items, assuring them that they would be able to repair some of their broken walls and construct some drains through the appropriate and mandated authorities established by laws and statutes, and that he would act as a strong intermediary between them and the authorities in question, resolving their problems holistically.
"There are banks of rains left to pour down," the Cape Coast South MP added, "therefore we have to put things correctly to prevent such catastrophes, especially in flood-prone areas."
The congressman used the opportunity to warn everyone to avoid building in muddy places and refrain from engaging in activities that may lead to similar disasters.
Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan voiced grave concern over severe erosion on the seashores of Ekon community, a suburb of his constituency, and urged the government to intervene promptly by expanding the existing sea defence project in the region.
In an interview with Onua FM's Kwame Kakraba, he stated this.
The MP was joined by his Constituency Officer, Chairman, Secretary, Communication Officer, Woman Organiser and her Deputy, Youth Organiser, Deputy Secretary, and a significant number of branch executives, Assembly Members from the areas, and the MP's office employees.
