Report: Barcelona set for talks in Leeds over Raphinha this week

Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany will travel to Leeds this coming week to hold talks in the hope of striking a deal for Raphinha, according to a report from Sport. Some may have expected Raphinha to be a Barcelona player by now. There was so much talk linking the Brazilian with a Nou Camp move towards the end of this past season. Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt – AMA/Getty Images Reports have suggested that Raphinha has already agreed a five-year deal with the Catalan giants. But Leeds staying up has clearly thrown a spanner in the works. 7 Football Clubs Who Are CURSED In ONE Competition Barca would have had to have paid just £21 million to sign him if they were relegated. Perhaps bizarrely, reports claimed that they still hoped to pay a similar amount despite Leeds beating the drop. Photo by Marc Graupera Aloma / AFP7 Getty Images Clearly, that will not be the case. Sport reports that Leeds want £56 million for Raphinha. Barcelona meanwhile, hope to pay nothing more than £34.3 million for the winger. The situation may come to a head in the near future. Sport suggests that Alemany will be in Leeds early next week for talks. Barcelona are prepared to offer players in a swap deal, with Oscar Mingueza one name on the Whites’ radar. Leeds fans will be a little nervous about the upcoming talks. Obviously, there will still be some hope that Raphinha could yet stay for another year. However, if Leeds let him go, it is absolutely imperative that the Whites get the biggest fee possible. Certainly, there will be uproar if Leeds compromise from their £56 million asking price. For some, that price is not enough. So selling for anything like £35 million would be baffling. Raphinha is an ‘unbelievable‘ player. Barcelona need to pay a fee befitting of one. Man Utd ‘outbid Barcelona for Raphinha transfer’ as agent Deco influences move

Manchester United have reportedly outbid Barcelona for Leeds star Raphinha. However, it’s stated that the player’s agent Deco is still working hard to ensure his client moves to the Nou Camp instead of Old Trafford. And it now seems the two European giants are involved in a transfer scrap as they seek to strengthen their respective squads. Manchester United know they need a new forward this summer. Cristiano Ronaldo is approaching the end of his career, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford haven’t kicked on and Jadon Sancho is yet to live up to expectations following his £73million move from Borussia Dortmund last year. Mason Greenwood remains unavailable, too, while Edinson Cavani has left the club after two years on their books. With that being the case, Sport now say United have moved in with a bid for Leeds’ Raphinha - who scored 11 Premier League goals from 35 appearances in the competition last term. While the amount they’ve offered isn’t specified, it’s claimed it’s actually higher than what Barcelona have offered Leeds. But though United are pushing to land the Brazil international, Barcelona are still frontrunners in the race for his signature. Erik ten Hag: What De Jong was told about Man Utd transfer Frenkie de Jong is their top transfer target, though Barcelona are trying to get as much money as possible for their prized asset. In defence, Pau Torres and Jurrien Timber have both been linked amid uncertainty over their futures at Villarreal and Ajax. And, up top, United are admirers of RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku and Ajax’s Antony - as well as Raphinha. Speaking at the start of the month, meanwhile, former United star Paul Parker called on his old side to land Raphinha this summer. "Now, he’s (Raphinha) not a centre-forward, he’s a wide player, he’s creative. He plays off the cuff, he improvises,” he said. Want the latest football news? When you look at Manchester United wide players, none of them have really done a lot.
