Aspirants for the position of National Chairman are set to appear before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vetting committee today, Monday, June 20, 2022.
This follows their filing of their nomination between June 13 and June 15 of this year. The candidates are:
Abankwah-Yeboah, George Kwabena
The NPP's current National Treasurer is George Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah. He was born and raised in Accra Korle-Worko, but is from Kwahu Mpraeso in Ghana's Eastern Region.
Abankwah-Yeboah is a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), rising through the ranks from polling station chairman in 2006 to member of the Greater Accra Regional Finance Committee, Greater Accra Regional Treasurer, and Deputy Director of Campaign and Fundraising in 2016.
Christopher Ameya Akumfi, Ph.D.
Ghanaian professor and politician Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi The NPP veteran, who served as Minister of Education in the John Agyekum Kufour government, is aiming to succeed Freddie Blay as National Chairman.
With his years of expertise, Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi believes he can assist the NPP "break the 8 mantra" when he becomes the party's national chairman.
Ntim Stephen Ayesu
Stephen Ayesu Ntim is a former National People's Party (NPP) national first vice chairman.
Stephen went on a countrywide campaign trip in May 2022 to persuade delegates that he is the finest candidate to lead the party into the 2024 elections.
The chairman hopeful claimed during his tour, branded "Time Aso to Break The 8 Campaign," that the party under his chairmanship would prolong its control beyond the eight-year maximum that has become the custom for every political party in Ghana, and that he hoped delegates would give him the chance.
Stephen Ntim will be running for the chairperson for the fourth time.
Ayikoi Otoo, Joseph
Joseph Ayikoi Otoo, the former Ghana High Commissioner to Canada, has entered the contest to become the party's national chairman, promising to guarantee that ministers of state and government appointees listen to the requirements of party members. Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Ayikoi Otoo.
According to him, if he is elected national chairman, he would galvanize grassroots support to help the party keep power in 2024.
Asabee Asamoah-Boateng Stephen Asamoah-Boateng
Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the then-Director-General of the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA), announced in 2021 that he is interested in standing for the New Patriotic Party's national chairmanship (NPP).
In November 2021, he resigned to run in the race.
In an interview, Asabee stated that his choice to compete for the job is in the party's best interests.
Crabbe, Sammy
Suspended Sammy Crabbe, the governing New Patriotic Party's (NPPsecond )'s vice chairman, has entered the contest for the party's chairmanship. Sammy Crabbe and then-General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong were both suspended indefinitely.
