Customers of the now-defunct Menzgold are appealing for the prosecution of Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, the firm's founder, to be halted.
They believe that this will expedite the process of recovering their funds.
The delay in prosecuting NAM 1 is a symptom of the government's lack of dedication to recovering their funds, according to the unhappy consumers who voiced unhappiness with how the state is handling the matter.
"We are quite dissatisfied with the government's handling of the situation." The government, in our opinion, is not dedicated to resolving this because the matter has been under investigation for three years, despite the fact that it is not a murder case." Fred Forson, Menzgold Customers' Convener
"This is a basic subject, thus we Menzgold consumers feel this is a hoax, and the Attorney-General cannot claim to be conducting an inquiry." This does not have to be the case.
"That's why we've advised they take advantage of the current private motion, present it to Parliament, and guarantee that Parliament aids the government in finding a long-term solution," he said.
He also stated that they would want the case to be made a civil case rather than a criminal matter so that they could lead the prosecution themselves.
"Either he's found guilty, he goes to jail, and nothing is said about our money, or he's found not guilty, he goes to prison and nothing is said about our money."
He continued, "If he's innocent, he'll come back, and then we'll utilise the civil path to obtain our money, which is what we're urging to the government."
Background
Nana Appiah Mensah, Menzgold's Chief Executive Officer, was charged by the Attorney-General nearly three years ago.
He is accused of cheating hundreds of consumers out of millions of cedis through his gold dealership enterprise.
Despite the fact that the case has been adjourned more than 20 times, no single "victim" has testified.
Meanwhile, sources within the AG's office claim that some components of the case need to be fine-tuned, which explains the delay.
