The groom-to-be was captured on camera during a crowded mass at the Nossa Senhora da Conceicao Aparecida Church in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
When a man in a white top runs down the aisle and straight towards the clergyman, video footage shows him speaking from the steps to the altar.
The enraged fiancé then punches the priest in front of fellow worshippers at the church in Rio's Cachambi district.
Those nearby can be seen immediately intervening to break up the scuffle as he launches his attack, while others look on horrified and shout out in shock.
According to local reports, the unnamed man attacked the priest because the churchman refused to marry him a second time.
Despite minor injuries, it is understood that the churchman chose not to report his attacker to police.
At the time of reporting in June, the archdiocese had not responded to the incident.
