On Tuesday, June 28th, 2022, the Ghana Institute of Journalism in Accra will launch two publications focused at improving writing abilities for communication students and practitioners.
The books are as follows:
Eric's Diary: A Guide to Feature Article Writing Using The 5ws And H + M, O/R
Eric's Diary: Using the 5Ws and Hs to Write Creatively
Adwinsa Publications Limited published the novels. The launch will be performed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Sylvanus Daniel Mensah Torto, Bishop of Accra.
The books, written by Mr. Eric Mensah-Ayettey, a seasoned journalist and Public Relations practitioner, are also valuable for those whose jobs need them to write in some way.
Mr. Mensah-Ayettey claims he was inspired to compile pieces he'd written over the previous year into these volumes. by his desire to assist in the development of writing skills
"In my 25 years in journalism, public relations, and advertising, I've noticed that most people struggle to write simple official letters, press releases, policy briefs, and fact sheets, much alone position papers and speeches," he stated.
"My true diagnosis is that many people do not understand the laws of language." This is primarily due to their inability to read. "They also don't listen to decent English," the author added.
"This calls for additional work to be done at the primary and senior school levels," the award-winning journalist said. I strongly encourage teachers at various levels of our educational system to develop appropriate pedagogical approaches in order to improve the situation.
As a communications professional, I feel I can help to improve the situation by providing some advise to everyone whose job requires writing, which is why I wrote this book."
Mr. Mensah-Ayettey acknowledges that the 5Ws and H (Who, What, Where, Why, When, and How) are traditionally used to write news reports, but "in my 25 years as a journalist and Public Relations practitioner, I dare say that the concept can be applied to speech writing, fact sheets, and feature writing," he added.
Students of journalism, journalists, public relations practitioners, media proprietors, media regulators, ministers of state, and his friends and family are anticipated to attend the event. END
Information on the Books
1. Eric's Diary: A Guide to Writing Feature Articles Using The 5ws and H+M, O/R -312 pages
In this book, I show how to produce instructive, amusing, interesting, and promotional feature stories using the 5Ws and H in news writing, as well as my addition - M, O/ R (Who, What, When, Why, Where, and How, as well as Motive, Opinion/ Recommendation).
Eric's Diary: A Guide to Writing Feature Pieces gets its name from the writing style used in these articles. I provide observations about sociopolitical and economic issues based on my personal experiences. This allows me to include traditional knowledge and local language into the article for the benefit of the readers.
It is my goal that readers would find it helpful in their writing endeavours, particularly opinion pieces, op-eds, columns, and promotional articles for organisations.
2. Eric's Diary: 136 pages of creative writing using the 5Ws and H
The reader is directed through the inventive process used to create the nine pieces, five of which are dedicated to amusement and four of which are political and socioeconomic in nature.
The reader is informed about how the entertainment-related works were created, developed, and born, as well as how the politically-inclined ones were imaginatively told, using the 5Ws and H.
A thousand-mile trip, without a doubt, begins with a single step. As a result, everyone interested in learning how to write articles that are both amusing and useful should get a copy of this book.
