Write us at your danger - that is the admonition from Welsh manager Wayne Pivac in front of his side's three-test visit through South Africa what starts one week from now.

While some have previously discounted the Welsh, especially after their loss to Italy in the last round of the Six Nations and their unfortunate fortunes at club level where none of their sides made the season finisher rounds of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, Pivac is certain the group that will take on the Springboks will be an altogether different Welsh quite side.

He referred to the reality they ran both England and France close in the Six Nations and despite not dominating those matches were in it until the end.

While he is nonplussed about being discounted, there was a wry smile that the Welsh accept they can match the Springboks and cause an upset in the test series.

"It's just individuals providing details regarding the facts at that point, I think we were discounted in the 2021 Six Nations as well," Pivac said in response to those discounting his side.

"In worldwide rugby assuming you discount any group it is at your own hazard. Assuming you glance back at our Six Nations and the great presentation against France and afterward the horrible showing against Italy.

"It is a Welsh group that that turns up on the day that South Africa must manage and we are trusting that will be a generally excellent Welsh group obviously.

"We are absolutely going there with things that we need to accomplish on the visit."

'Extreme CHALLENGE'

Pivac would have rather not been brought into what success on visit would mean, however with Wales having never dominated a test game in South Africa, any success would be seen as a step up from the long history between the different sides.

While Wales have won most of the games between the sides over the course of the past ten years, almost always it has been in Cardiff. They lost close games against South Africa in the World Cup semifinal and in Cardiff last year and accept they can improve.

Still, he conceded that pointing toward the South Africa in their own back yard was "a definitive test".

"Inside we need to make progress on the visit, and assuming success means dominating rugby matches. On the off chance that we dominate one match, a few it would be a success in terms of what has occurred in the past, where we haven't won away.

"According to our perspective it is an enormous test obviously. We are playing the World Champions in their back yard at height in the first two tests before their home group interestingly since they won the World Cup.

"So they will be vigorously roused and in test rugby you need a definitive test as players and coaches. This is a definitive test - South Africa at elevation, falling off our Six Nations and where they are in their game.

"I must say the boys are really buckling down. I figure we will be a step up from where we were in our last match."

Whether it will be adequate to beat the Springboks is another matter. Be that as it may, the Welsh have issued their admonition, and the Boks will be careful, despite the fact that some of their fans may not be.
