Mikel Arteta will miss 11 Arsenal players for the start of pre-season training
The latest Arsenal news looks at which senior players will miss the first day of pre-season training at London Colney on Monday.
Arsenal's pre-season preparations for the 2022/23 season will begin in less than a week, as senior and academy players return for training.
Mikel Arteta's side are due to report back to London Colney on June 27 to ensure they are ready for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on August 5 - avoiding a repeat of last season when they were second best at Brentford.
The Gunners' schedule for the next five weeks includes a pre-season training camp in Germany, followed by a friendly against FC Nurnberg on July 8 at the Max-Morlock Stadion. They will then return to London before departing for America on July 13 for their second preseason international tour, where they will face Everton, Orlando City, and Chelsea.
Furthermore, the Emirates Cup returns after a three-year absence, with Arsenal taking on La Liga side Sevilla in the final warm-up game before the trip to Selhurst Park. Football.london understands that the club is hoping to arrange a friendly behind closed doors in between those two games, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
However, Arteta's pre-season plans have been slightly disrupted by the most recent UEFA Nations League, international friendlies, as well as World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as a number of his senior players were involved in those fixtures, meaning their campaign only ended last week.
As a result, there will be a lack of senior members at London Colney on June 27 because those involved during the international break have been given extra time off to recover and will not report for duty for at least another week - and in some cases until after the Germany training camp.
Aaron Ramsdale, Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe, Granit Xhaka, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Lucas Torreira, and Folarin Balogun are among those who represented their respective nations Over the last two weeks, so have the ten Arsenal first-team players currently under contract to the club, all of whom Arteta will be missing for the start of pre-season training.
Furthermore, summer signing Marquinhos will not be present on June 27 because he cannot be officially registered as an Arsenal player following his £3 million move from Sao Paulo until July 1 because that is when the international transfer window opens, so he will have to wait a few more days to join up with his new teammates. This also applies to Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner if their moves are made official before next Friday, as expected.
It remains to be seen whether Benjamin White, Gabriel Magalhaes, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Nicolas Pepe will be present for the first day of the pre-season training as Routinely called up by England, Brazil, Japan, and Ivory Coast, the quartet did not play, with the former pulling out of Gareth Southgate's squad entirely.
