A La Liga ruling has delayed Manchester United's pursuit of Barcelona sensation Frenkie de Jong.
After Erik ten Hag declared his wish to rejoin with his former Ajax player, De Jong, 25, is the No. 1 target for Old Trafford officials this summer. They have so far been unable in reaching an arrangement with the Catalan giants.
United's offer for the Dutch international, roughly £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons, falls short of Barca's estimate of £80 million. As things are, the two clubs are at odds, and it's all due of La Liga's budgetary constraints.

They've penalized cash-strapped Barcelona by limiting them to expend only a third of what they earn through player sales or save from their salaries.
Because De Jong is being used as a fund-raiser, president Joan Laporta is trying to extract as much money as possible from him — which is why they are refusing to lower their asking price.

United, on the other hand, is adamant about not giving up. Ten Hag is in charge of a big squad overhaul in the transfer market, with several new arrivals likely, so he'll need all the money he can get his hands on.
As a result, paying too much for De Jong isn't a good idea. If Barcelona refuses to compromise, they may be obliged to search for other possibilities, with a central midfielder being their top priority following the departure of free agent Paul Pogba.
Ruben Neves of Wolves has been a long-term aim and should be less expensive than De Jong. Christian Eriksen, meanwhile, has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
A deal for winger Antony, another of Ten Hag's former players, appears to be nearing completion. United executives have gone to Amsterdam in an attempt to close the deal for £40 million.
