Romelu Lukaku's brief return to Chelsea is finished, as the club has agreed in principle to loan him to Inter Milan, with Todd Boehly playing a significant role in the negotiations.

Todd Boehly has completed his first significant transaction at Chelsea.

Todd Boehly has completed his first significant transaction at Chelsea.

Todd Boehly has previously demonstrated his transfer market clout, as his link with Roc Nation aided Romelu Lukaku's return to Inter Milan.

Despite only signed a new contract with Chelsea last summer, the Blues have agreed to let Lukaku return to Inter on loan. Inter will pay a fee of £6.87 million plus add-ons, as well as salary and performance bonuses.

Lukaku has been linked with a move away from Inter since a scathing interview with Sky Italia in December, in which he expressed his desire to return to the club despite criticising Thomas Tuchel's tactics. However, it appears that Chelsea's new owners were already close with Lukaku's representatives, facilitating a transaction.

Lukaku became Chelsea's record signing less than a year ago, when he returned to Stamford Bridge citing 'unfinished business' in a £97.5 million move. But if they could, Chelsea fans would certainly go back in time and undo the deal.

Lukaku is represented by Roc Nation, a firm created by Jay-Z in 2008, and is the company's first Premier League client. And it may be a small world at times, as Chelsea's new American owner Boehly appears to be friendly with Roc Nation head Michael Yormark.

Chelsea were doing well under former owner Roman Abramovich when Lukaku signed, but the Russian had his hand pressed when his apparent ties to Vladimir Putin led to him being sanctioned. Chelsea were taken over by an American company after a lengthy process, with co-owner Boehly spearheading the acquisition.
