After the Tuesday transfer meeting, the club told Manchester United, "£74 million or nothing."

Regarding the transfer of Dutch international midfielder Frenkie de Jong, Manchester United was in direct touch with Spanish club Barcelona.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has designated De Jong as a priority acquisition for the Red Devils this summer and is eager to reconnect with his former Ajax player.

Manchester United had a direct conversation with Barcelona on Tuesday, but the two sides were unable to come to an agreement.

Barcelona informed Manchester United during the meeting on Tuesday that they won't accept less than £74 million (€86 million) for De Jong, according to reputable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Barcelona is said to prefer a guaranteed sum of £74 million rather than add-ons.

According to reports, Manchester United is prepared to offer De Jong about £60 million plus an additional $5 million in add-ons.

Barcelona should sell to raise money to bolster their team, and United is aware that they are the only team truly interested in De Jong.

Insisting that they won't overpay for De Jong, Manchester United is ready to back out of a deal should Barcelona not agree to a compromise.

When Ed Woodward was in charge of operating the club, Manchester United was accused of paying exorbitant player prices, but new chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough are likely to take a tougher stance.

It is thought that an agreement between Manchester United and Barcelona will soon be made because Barcelona is eager to sell, Manchester United is interested in buying, and De Jong is open to joining Manchester United.

According to Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold, the team is making every effort to capture Barcelona midfielder De Jong.

Money is not a factor in who we want, according to Arnold.

The management wants him, and they have taken the time to determine whether he is a top player.

Is it £100,000,000 or £200,000,000? I'm not sure. Get f***ing anybody you want.

"Would you like me to purchase the players? Does that sound familiar?

"United officials are in Barcelona finalizing the deal for De Jong," he continued.

"As a club, we're doing everything we can to close the transaction; I've been up all night working on it. The funds are available, but obstacles that I am unable to overcome stand in our way.
