Stephen Jalulah, a member of Parliament representing Pru West, has stated that he and his colleagues who were allegedly paid double wages have reimbursed the money.

Sylvester Tetteh of Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro, Alexander Gyan, MP for Kintampo South, and Alhassan Iddi, MP for Salaga North, are the others.

The MPs collected salaries as Chief Executive Officers of state institutions and District Chief Executives, which were their previous positions as well as that of an MP, according to the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), and failed to refund the overpaid salaries to state coffers.

In an interview with JoyNews on Tuesday, Mr. Stephen Jalulah, who was also implicated, underlined that they repaid the money given to them long ago.

The Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways emphasised that the MPs alerted the Controller's office of the irregularity as soon as they discovered it through their connections at the Controller and Accountant Generals Department.

"When we observed the [double payment], we got together and concluded that it should be stopped, and it was finally terminated around August." Because we are Honourable Members of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, we met again in September as a group and reimbursed every pesewa of the money that was transferred to our accounts.

On Tuesday, he said on The Pulse, "As honourable people, we have to be honest and truthful in our dealings, which is why we voluntarily returned our monies."

The charges levelled by ASEPA have astonished the Pru West MP.

"I'm astonished that ASEPA completed this study without first consulting the various parties involved. "I'm not sure what they're hoping to get out of it," he said.

According to the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability, the MPs in issue are not wholly to blame.

"As we speak, some Members of Parliament who were previous DCEs have accounts that continue to record payments of salary as DCEs and also as MPs, and you can see from the paper that the Auditor General has ordered them to reimburse them."

"It's impossible to hold the MPs responsible."
