Barcelona and Manchester United are in talks regarding Frenkie de Jong.
According to sources, MANCHESTER UNITED and Barcelona have been in "direct touch" today regarding Frenkie de Jong.
The Spanish powerhouses, though, won't move from their £74 million value of the midfielder.
The two clubs will carry on their talks to see whether a deal can be reached, according to writer Fabrizio Romano.
Erik ten Hag, the new manager of United, desires a meeting with his former Ajax player.
Three years ago, De Jong moved from Amsterdam to the Nou Camp in a transaction valued up to £75 million. He has a deal with Barca till 2026.
Barcelona is also determined to guarantee they get their money back on the Dutch international due to their financial condition and the tight LaLiga rules.
They also want a guarantee that they would receive the entire £74 million so they can reinvest in the team.
After Paul Pogba was declared a free agent, United is in desperate need of a new master of the midfield.
However, rivals Manchester City could potentially scuttle a deal if the Red Devils are unable to finalize anything just yet.
De Jong is also well admired by Pep Guardiola, who has been linked to signing the former Ajax academy graduate in the past.
Although Barca see the Portuguese playmaker as the ideal solution, the Spanish manager's stubbornness to sell Bernardo Silva might ruin United's chances of signing De Jong.
This past weekend, Old Trafford CEO Richard Arnold assured irate supporters that the team is making every effort to complete the transfer.
"As a club, we're doing everything we can to close the deal," he declared. "The money is there, but there are things standing in our way that I can't say," I've been up for days trying to get it done.
De Jong is reportedly rumored to have cleaned out his locker at Barcelona in anticipation of a summer transfer.
In other news, SunSport reported that Red Devils manager Ten Hag is about to finalize his first signing.
Antony, a winger, is reportedly close to leaving Ajax in a £40 million transfer. Along with Christian Eriksen, his teammates Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez have also been linked.
